Well, guess who decided that they’d ignore emails about their website expiring … yeah, me!
I’ve been super busy with Decaying Salvage that a few things have managed to slip by, including updates to the website, and making more devlogs. The biggest focus for me right now is to complete the demo, and get it handed in for a funding application at the end of the month.
This time though … I’m not stressed. Which is amazing! I usually stress all the time. If We Are Not Alone taught me one thing (well, many many many things, but one in particular) is to STOP rushing. Rushing gets you no where. Rushing gets you pushing your release build out with a critical bug at the end that spawns people in the middle of no where with no way to complete the game …
*deep breath*.
So yes, stop rushing. My original plan was to have the internal demo, all funding documentation, AND the external demo on Steam Next Fest for Feb 25th … that’s not happening. I could make it happen, I’ve done it before, but I’m learning. Learning to stop, to make sure things are as polished as they can be for a good public reception.
The demo for We Are Not Alone was rushed. I hadn’t even finalised the art style. As soon as that demo came out I changed it … released a new demo, changed it again because I wasn’t happy, and released it again. The demo itself consumed SIX MONTHS of the entire dev time for We Are Not Alone. I’m not doing that again! I’ve got my art style, I’ve got my gameplay loop, I’ve got the direction I want to take this, so there’s no risk of change there … but I still want to make sure the demo is 1) polished, and 2) pretty darn good.
Progress on Decaying Salvage has been steady. The leap from We Are Not Alone to this game is absurdly huge. I’ve added combat (the game isn’t about run and gun, it’s more puzzle based), I’ve added lots of interaction, added more animation events (crouching, objects interacting, etc), and honestly … I’ve never had more fun making a game.
This blog post was just meant to be a test for the website but once I started writing … well, my hands wouldn’t stop.
I hate committing to dates, but I find writing this kind of therapeutic, so maybe … just maybe, I’ll keep these up.
Oh, and go Wishlist Decaying Salvage on Steam!
